“PRAY – TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE”: The Story Behind the PRAY Billboard Mission 

People for CHRIST – PRAY Billboard Mission was founded by Lisa Young after receiving a word from the LORD during the 2020 lockdowns to place Christian Billboards with HIS message, “PRAY, -TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE”, across America and beyond.  Lisa has lived in the small community of Martinsville, Indiana for over 40 years with her husband. She is a devoted wife, a proud mother of three, and a grandmother of two. She now dedicates all my time to sharing HIS message on these Christian Billboards — a journey began long ago with a miracle. 

In 1990, Lisa’s life was forever changed by a horrific car accident. Less than a mile from her home, her vehicle was completely impaled by a 100-foot guardrail. Her pelvis was crushed, her leg nearly severed, and her life hung by a thread. She was life-lined to the hospital where doctors told her husband she would not survive the night. But GOD had other plans.  

Lisa describes that day. “I knew I was dying. Amid the unbearable pain, I remember praying, LORD, please let me live to raise our children. I could feel the lifeblood draining from me — and yet, I was filled with peace. JESUS was right there with me. HE spared my life. Though I now live with permanent disabilities, I was given the strength to complete my first earthly mission: raising my family. Looking back, I realize that had I died that night, I would have gone to hell. That truth changed everything.” 

Fast forward to 2020, during the COVID lockdowns. I was deeply troubled by the darkness and fear I saw rising worldwide. I cried out to GOD: “This world has gone mad; You must do something!” And in that moment, the HOLY SPIRIT spoke boldly: “I’VE GOT THIS, YOU NEED TO CONCENTRATE ON SAVING SOULS.” I asked how and HIS reply was, “BILLBOARDS.”  I asked what HE wanted on the Billboards, and HE said, “PRAY, TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE.”  GOD gave Lisa this mission with no funding and no experience, yet HE has been faithful to open door after door since that time.  

The LORD said, put up PRAY Billboards across America, and that is our whole mission. We have placed 185 PRAY billboards across 25 states, reaching more than 7 million drivers since it began. Lisa often says that she now understands why the LORD said: “Billboards.” Habakkuk 2:2 in the Living Bible translation, backs up HIS request; “And the Lord said to me, write my answer on a billboard, large and clear, so that anyone can read it at a glance and rush to tell the others.” 

The PRAY Billboards are a visual reminder to PRAY and communicate with GOD. PRAY Billboards gives HIS Simple, Powerful Message for travelers, families, and entire communities to turn their hearts to GOD in these globally challenging times. In a world filled with fear and confusion, Christian Billboards point to the only true source of eternal salvation through CHRIST. We have received powerful testimonies about the impact Christian Billboards have had bringing families to GOD.  

People for CHRIST – PRAY Billboard Mission is a 501 (C) 3 nonprofit that relies on your charity to place Christian Billboards. We rely on religious organizations, social services organizations, advertising agencies, and billboard companies to find donors and remnant billboards that are given to us on a PSA basis, cutting the expenses in half. We are on an Urgent Mission to remind America that the solution for the never-ending list of problems we face as a nation is PRAYER. By placing these Christian Billboards across the nation and beyond, travelers are reminded to PRAY. That one action is all it will take to bring our nation back to GOD.  

The problems we face have deeper roots than just policy and economics alone. At their core, America’s most pressing issues are spiritual in nature. The ever-increasing lawlessness and violent crime we see in every city, reflect the decay of our Christian foundation. Inflation now reads like a warning beacon signaling that our choices have drifted far from good fiscal stewardship, long-term responsibility, and public trust, in favor of misplaced political priorities and short-term gratification to win elections. Systemic corruption continues to grow, and integrity is absent in every department of life. And most importantly, the weakening resolve of Americans to unite to defend our rights and freedoms signals a loss of our shared values and an ignorance of the high stakes we face. These problems are all spiritual problems that can only be solved with spiritual tools, and PRAYER is the most powerful spiritual tool we have.  The LORD gave this message to place on billboards- because HE knows the power PRAYER has and the effort to place these Christian Billboards has been ongoing since that time.
